    Children are increasingly swapping music via mobile phones, often without realising they can be breaking the law.  A survey of almost 1,500 eight to 13-year-olds found almost a third shared music via their mobiles.

    Most enterprises probably don't give too much of a hoot about portable music players, except where they present potential security risks.
    After months of issuing warnings, the music industry finally made good on its threat to file suit against peer-to-peer software company LimeWire.
     
    A group of music companies, including Sony BMG, Virgin Records and Warner Bros. Records, have accused LimeWire and the company\'s officers of copyright infringement, according to a federal lawsuit filed Friday in U.S. District Court in New York. LimeWire produces software that\'s often used to create copies of music recordings and then distribute them over the Web.
     
    The recording industry is asking for compensatory and punitive damages, such as $150,000 for every song distributed without permission.
     
    LimeWire is \"devoted essentially to the Internet piracy of plaintiffs\' sound recordings,\" the record companies charge in their suit. \"The scope of infringement caused by defendants is staggering.\"

    iPod takes to the road with Ford and Mazda

    ‘Seamless’ integration with car stereos
    Apple has signed deals with Ford, GM and Mazda to enable 'seamless' iPod integration with their car stereos.
     
    GM and Ford are the top two car makers in the US, so the new deals will help the iconic audio gadget towards even greater dominance of the portable audio market. The iPod already has a 75 per cent share of the US market.
     
    The iPod will now be compatible with more than 70 per cent of the new 2007 model vehicles sold in the US, according to Apple.
     
    GM and Mazda will offer iPod integration on all new models, and Ford will include it in many models later this year.
     
    BMW incorporated iPods directly into its car stereo systems two years ago, allowing users to access their music library through the car's standard controls. Last year, Apple inked similar deals with car companies including Audi, Ferrari, Honda, Nissan and Volkswagen.
    Gadgets such as the iTrip, which plug into MP3 players and connect them wirelessly to radios, are set to become legal in the UK.

    They are already popular in some parts of the world, but using them is illegal in the UK and Europe.
    Internet video -- from episodes of ``South Park'' to videos of your friend singing karaoke to the latest Prince single -- has exploded in popularity.
     
    But it's still harder than you might think to move video around. And the huge amount of video online is straining the Internet.

    Warning over 'illegal' MP3 site

    Britons using bargain music download website allofmp3.com have been warned that they are breaking the law.

    Record industry trade association the BPI said consumers were breaking UK copyright law because allofmp3.com was not licensed to sell recordings.

    Microsoft reps have denied recent rumors alleging that it has partnered with a number of Japanese consumer electronics companies to develop a device to compete in Japan with Apple's iPod.

    PARIS — Rising consumer popularity is turning AllofMP3.com, a music downloading service based in Moscow, into a global Internet success story, except for one important detail: The site may well be illegal.

    So great is the official level of concern about AllofMP3 that American trade negotiators darkly warned that the Web site could jeopardize Russia's long-sought entry into the World Trade Organization.

    SAN JOSE, Calif. - Nike Inc. and Apple Computer Inc. have teamed up to try to become a runner's best friend. 
     
    The two companies announced Tuesday they are jointly developing a wireless system so some Nike shoes embedded with a sensor can communicate with Apple's iPod Nano music player to track a runner's performance and help choreograph songs to the moment.
